Mr. Afxentiou holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Athens School of Economics and Business in Greece. He also holds a postgraduate degree in Economics and Business from the University of Georgia in the United States. He served for forty years in the public sector: twenty years in the Ministry of Finance including his service as Minister of Finance between 1979-1982, and 20 years as the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus. He has been the Governor for Cyprus in the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Mr. Afxentiou represented Cyprus on many occasions at the Annual Commonwealth Finance Ministers’ meetings and of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. He has also represented Cyprus in other International Economic Conferences and high level seminars.
